Burial-Grounds Tribute Page

| System Failure was the first map pak created by and for the Burial-Grounds.com community. The pak consists of four high quality deathmatch maps that were constructed and tested over a four month period. We created a theme for the project that each mapper adhered to, and included tons of custom created textures and music that were created specifically for this map pak. It was a collective effort from the entire Burial-Grounds community, with mappers, musicians, artists and beta testers all calling BG their home. | ||||
| Galileus (BGMP1) by: Quint This was the smallest map in the pak, and it was also probably the one with the most action packed gameplay. Quint did a masterful job with the textures and lighting, as well as adhering to the portion of the theme he was responsible for. The music track “Desolation” included in Quint’s map was produced by Ross “Captain” Tracy, who also produced two other tracks for the team. |
| Distant Sands (BGMP2) by: Jax_Gator Distant Sands by Jax_Gator was yet another masterpiece by one of the most respected mappers in the Burial-Grounds community. Jax always seemed to bring an organic feel to his maps, as well as just make giant strides in gameplay with each and every map he produced. The outdoor areas were a blast with the railgun, and plenty of indoor action to meet your rocket launching needs. Another instant classic. Music for BGMP2 was produced by another community member, JackOfficer. With its funky baseline, Easter was probably my favorite track in the entire pak. |
| Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence (BGMP3) by: Finko By far one of my favorite maps of all time, BGMP3 has it all. Finko has become world famous for his vertical action maps, and IMO this was one of his greatest accomplishments. The vertical action is great, the open area horizontal deathmatch is great, the hectic corridor bloodbaths are great and I love how he used the textures and brushwork. Finko went on to make many more maps, including two in the next Burial-Grounds map pak, and some were probably better looking and more technically sound, but BGMP3 will go down as one of the most fun maps of them all. Descent by Ross “Captain” Tracy is the music track you will hear while playing BGMP3, and I think of all the tracks in the pak, this one suited the map it was designed for the best. |
| Digital Fusion (BGMP4) by: StormShadow BGMP4 is right up there with BGMP1 as far as action packed gameplay goes. Gibs are flying all over this map due to the vast line of sign in the main corridor and some perfectly placed jump pads. Storm just did everything right for this map, with great ambiance, texturing and gameplay. Stormshadow continued to create some great maps after this map pak, with one of my all time favorite maps being in the Burial-Grounds map pak 2. Again, music is produced by the hard working Ross “Captain” Tracy with the track Continuum. |

| Viralis was the second map pak brought to you by the level design team at Burial-Grounds.com We put a lot of time in effort in to this map paks theme, which produced some of the most interesting custom Quake 3 maps I’ve ever seen or had the pleasure to play in. We took just over eight months produce the five maps for the Viralis map pak (and one sixth “hidden” space map by NECROSIS), which included lots of brainstorming for the theme, tons of time with custom textures and sounds and around 3 months of beta testing. We promoted the heck out of this project, with wallpapers, a comic strip to explain the theme of the pak as well as an interview with Pappy-R from Planetquake.com I was very proud to be a part of this team, I think we released an A+ product here. | ||||||
| Into the Abyss [water] (BGMP5) by: StormShadow Stormshadow blew us all away with this awesomely textured and constructed map. He followed the theme flawlessly, with the “Water” element really shining through with the texturing and lighting that was second to none! I think this is one of the best looking maps out there, StormShadow should definitely be working in the business. |
| The Soremill [wood] (BGMP6) by: Psion I was pleasantly surprised with how well psions map was constructed! It is probably one of the most fun maps of them all, and it adhered to the concept of the map pak as well as any other. The texturing, brushwork and sounds of the map really brought home the true intention of this project. I can’t imagine this map pak without The Soremill, it’s a true classic. |
| FireWalker [fire] (BGMP7) by: Finko Firewalker is actually the second map that Finko created for the Viralis map pak. We had another member of the team drop out due to personal reasons, and we were in desperate need for someone to fill his spot. In stead of trying to get another person up to speed with the project, Finko volunteered to step up and make another map (he also made BGMP9). This map is insane, with it’s vertical, jump pad, railgun gameplay. Finko created a real winner with the fire map, especially considering the amount of time he had to work on it. |
| Mortal Wounds [earth] (BGMP8) by: Jax_Gator Again, Jax_Gator comes through with a big time crowd favorite in BGMP8, Mortal Wounds. The gameplay is spot on, the theme is covered throughout the map and the visuals are as good as they get! There is a lot to love about this map, including the hidden passage to the railgun sniper spot, to the difficulty in the hidden quad damage room. The waterfall is beautiful to look at and the gameplay is just as fun! I think this was one of Jax_Gators last custom Quake 3 map, and it shows the maturity of his awesome level editing skills. |
| Steel Force [metal] (BGMP9) by: Finko The fact that Finko was able to create two maps in the time alloted for this map pak was amazing to me. The fact that they both rocked is simply a testament to his mad level editing skills, hard work, and determination. I loved Steel Force because it’s a true Finko style, fast action, vertical gameplay type of map. The many jump pads, accel pads and warp zones make for a unique gameplay map, one that I’ll always load up and play. |
| NECROCHAOS [space] (BGMP0) by: NECROSIS BGMP0 was a hidden map that we included with the Viralis map pak. NECROSIS created this fun space/rail style map to include as a bonus for the map pak. Everyone on the Viralis map pak team pitched in to add some gameplay and style elements to NECROCHAOS, making it a special map to me. Although space maps are not usually my bag, I absolutely love playing on this one. When set for railgun only, it’s one of the most fun maps you’ll ever play. It truly did finish the pak for us, I’m happy NECROSIS came up with the idea and put it in to motion. |

Awesome tribute, we should also mention the maps we played a lot but weren’t made by us like Hope, Heavy Duty, and Overkill. Are there any archived stats of what the favorite maps on the servers were? I would say overkill’s gotta be right up there.
